Global climate change is a phenomenon that affects all aspects of life on Earth. Especially in Southeast Asia, the impact on the ecosystem is very significant. Increases in average temperatures, changes in rainfall patterns, and a higher frequency of natural disasters are some examples of impacts that occur. One of the main impacts of climate change is the destruction of natural habitats. Increasing temperatures can result in the loss of ecosystems such as coral reefs which are very vulnerable to changes in sea temperature. Data shows that around 70% of the world’s coral reefs are threatened with extinction due to global warming. The loss of coral reefs affects various marine species, because reefs provide shelter and spawning grounds for many fish. Apart from that, climate change also affects biodiversity. Many species, both animals and plants, cannot adapt quickly to environmental changes. A study shows that around 1 million species are threatened with extinction if mitigation measures are not taken immediately. Species that depend on certain ecosystems, such as tropical rainforests, will be worst affected. Climate change has also impacted animal migration patterns. As temperatures rise, many animals move to cooler or higher altitudes. For example, migratory birds have shown changes in their migration routes. This not only affects the ecosystems they move into, but also influences interactions between species in the area. The agricultural sector is also greatly affected by climate change. Changes in rainfall and temperature can affect crop yields. Rising temperatures result in an increased risk of pests and plant diseases, as well as reducing soil quality. This has a direct impact on food security, with the risk of famine increasing in many parts of the world. Climate change also makes natural disasters worse. Floods, droughts and tropical storms are becoming more frequent and stronger. In recent years, records show that climate-related natural disasters have increased, causing massive economic losses and ecosystem damage. Community involvement in preventing climate change is becoming increasingly important to protect ecosystems. The importance of mitigating and adapting to climate change cannot be ignored. Habitat conservation and restoration policies are crucial steps in efforts to maintain biodiversity. Apart from that, the use of renewable energy and reducing carbon emissions also plays an important role. Changes in human behavior, such as reducing waste and using resources sustainably, are steps that can be taken individually and collectively. Ecosystem balance is highly dependent on a stable climate. The survival of species on Earth is threatened if climate change is not taken seriously. Therefore, immediate action to reduce the impacts of climate change is a must for the survival of all forms of life.
